For students:
The L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science (LCS) recommends a Dell or Apple laptop computer with at least 2 GB of RAM and at least 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor which are available for purchase through the SU Bookstore: http://bookstore.syr.edu/computers . (Apple MacBook users may need to buy a copy of Windows XP or Vista for a dual- boot configuration. Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department majors can get Windows operating systems for free).
Students should have software to work with Microsoft Office file formats and software to view and create PDF documents. Course-specific software may be available to LCS students for use on their personal computers.
Note: Students also have access to the LCS computer labs, which have a wide selection of engineering and computer science applications, such as CAD programs and software development tools on Windows, Solaris, and Linux computers.
